#FrameItFriday (week 29 season 5)

#FrameItFriday (Week 29 season 5)

Who spent SIX hours paddling on the Moira River yesterday, let's see a show of hands! Oh right, it was just my husband and I. It was more like 3.5 hours of paddling and 2 hours of taking wildlife photos and a half hour dock chatting. We spent at least an hour taking photos of this guy shown because it's the first time we've seen one. What is he? He's a Bittern he's part of the heron family. Smaller than the Great Blue Heron but bigger than a Green Heron. We hung out with him and he could care less about us unless we decided to hunt alongside him. He was hangry (remember what I told you about hangry birds a few weeks back?) and he was an exceptional fisher bird. During our hour photoshoot he gobbled up at least 6 or 7 fish, wait TADPOLES. Yup, those big juicy bits he's pinched with his beak are bullfrog tadpoles, they're about the size of a Ferrero Rocher chocolate but I'm guessing they may not taste quite as delicious (at least to us). I hated to part ways with him but we had only travelled 1/3 of the way down the section of our river before we hit the dam so off we went. We passed through at least 4 different Kingfisher family territories. Kingfishers are cool but they are tricky to shoot from the water. I will use my polite words to describe them and say that they are like giant noisy screeching mosquitos. We saw 2 Great Blue Herons (no photos) or 1 Great Blue Heron 2xs, take your pick. Also, not as many turtles were logging it this year. We witnessed a huge air battle between a saucy Green Heron and some nesting Grackles and I captured the Green Heron taking a poop (luckily? there's a photo to come). We began to snap out of our photo taking coma pretty soon after we spoke to a new neighbour who described to us the secret ingredients of Swiss Chalet rotisserie chicken . Our conversations switched gears and turned into talk of "what's for dinner" and "we gotta check out that new place for fish and chips" lol. SO, expect some shots of what we saw get posted up here in the next few weeks (no food pics, not to worry lol).

It's our town's fair this weekend and we are hoping to check it out tomorrow. What are you up to? Stay safe!

Peace, love and kumbaya, Heather
