#FrameItFriday (week 23 season 6)

Remember last week when my neighbour came by and said "there's some Sandhill's in my newly planted corn field"? By the time I showed up they had made their way to the far end of the field. Time is of the essence when you see such a gathering. In spite of the fact they were grazing & playing right beside a house that had a dog on the porch who was oblivious to the cranes, to us, etc. As a matter of fact these 5 didn't see us until we'd tiptoed over half of the freshly sprouted corn field. So what do I do? I stop and shoot, stop and shoot until I get caught in their high beams. When that happens it changes from a "single looking to mingle" rehearsal to a "let's get the hell out of here" flight and BOOM, they're gone. This pic shown is super cropped but look what I captured while they were still oblivious to us watching. I will quite simply caption this as: "kiss my country ass" but I'm pretty sure some of you on here could come up with a zinger of a caption (comment below). We tried to find them again by following their flight path but I haven't seen them since. I haven't seen so many since I was down in Long Point where they gather by the 1,000s in the empty fields awaiting clearance to migrate. Thank you to my neighbour Ted for the tip.

We finally got rain this past week and we needed it. What we didn't need is another mosquito baby boom but that came along with the rain. Yesterday was the first day I could get out in the garden and weed without the little brats draining me of all the blood in my veins. I planted my 3rd and final cucumber plant (first one got flash frozen, 2nd one died of de-hydration let's hope 3rd time's the charm). I also believe the otter that was in the pond has left us for the big boy river. I'm glad he/she has gone, I think it gorged itself on anything we had in the pond. It weed whacked the reeds around the shore and split. Undoubtedly, a great photo subject, but not a great tenant (who never paid us rent) hissing at me! Tsk. Tsk.

Lots going on around our neck of the woods this weekend, car show, porch ruckus, Crash Test Dummies Show and Father's Day. For the 27% of the guys that follow me here on my page, happy Father's Day! Whatever you get up to, enjoy, rain or shine.

Peace, love and kumbaya,
