#FrameItFriday (week 32 season 5) Although my alarm was set for 5am last Saturday morning through all the excitement, I found myself awake at 3:50am! 3:50am for heaven's sakes! That's not me, an early bird, except when we're going somewhere exciting! I had my car packed and topped with kayaks and decided to just leave early and cruise along highway 60 that cuts through Algonquin Park. I was meeting my kids at the Tim Lake Access Point #2 which is northeast of Kearney, Ontario
#FrameItFriday (week 31 season 5) My community recently got hit hard by a tornado that whipped through 10 minutes north of us at about 175kms/hr! We were very, very lucky we dodged that bullet. Very lucky. Many folks lost their homes, their livelihoods, vehicles, outbuildings and power. In fact, some are still without power. Thankfully, from what I know, there was only one minor injury. I posted some videos of some of the destruction earlier this week. I have a route that I l
#FrameItFriday (week 30 season 5) Let's have a laugh, I need a laugh, do you need a laugh? Caption this photo will you please?
I'll go first:
"Where the heck is my phone**? Damn, I hope I didn't drop it in the river!"
**He left it at home charging.
I know some of you can do better, so write one up and stick it in the comments below.
A week tomorrow I will be embarking on a back country camping trip with my family, it's going to be our 2nd annual (we're late bloomers). It's n
#FrameItFriday (Week 29 season 5) Who spent SIX hours paddling on the Moira River yesterday, let's see a show of hands! Oh right, it was just my husband and I. It was more like 3.5 hours of paddling and 2 hours of taking wildlife photos and a half hour dock chatting. We spent at least an hour taking photos of this guy shown because it's the first time we've seen one. What is he? He's a Bittern he's part of the heron family. Smaller than the Great Blue Heron but bigger than a
#FrameItFriday (week 26 season 5) After checking "the weather" a mind numbing trillion times (apparently it's a Canadian's favourite app)we finally said "*uck it" and headed out for another paddle. Being that we have an annual provincial park pass we decided to head over to Sharbot Lake Provincial Park and test the waters there. Just as we pulled up to the launch to take the yaks off the racks 3 juvenile loons paraded by, our triple sign of hope. I broke into a little shoreli
#FrameItFriday (week 25 season 5) Finally, finally, finally met up with a Merganser family this past week. It was not a planned shoot, it all began with this family hiding out along the shore in the shrubs on the lake we were paddling on. They startled the heck out of me when they panic escaped into the waters ahead of me. After a frenzy of "walking on water" up the lake a bit with her 7 cotton ball babies they eventually settled on to mom's back (that epic shot I've dreamed
#FrameItFriday (week 24 season 5) Is this not a quintessential Canadian scene? To make it extra special, just so you know, the photographer and the paddlers were all wearing hoodies because it was chill-eeeeee. Anyhow, this was up in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park on Wolf Lake last week. The weather wasn't particularly epic this past week which meant being indoors with plastic moving totes still sitting stacked in the corner of my bedroom....it's been well over a year tha
#FrameItFriday (week 23 season 5) Well, for two weeks a portion of our patio was off limits as a pair of Robins set up their nursery in one of our planters. Initially 5 blue eggs were laid in this surprisingly tiny but tidy nest. 4 yellow beaks eventually appeared and for pretty much 2 weeks straight their bright yellow beaks pointed skyward for non-stop all you can eat fly by feedings. The airways around our house are congested with takeoffs and landings from dawn til dusk.
#FrameItFriday (week 22 season 5) Flying the coop, getting out of dodge, down time, me time, quiet time, whatever you want to call it. Cover your ears, pull the blanket over your head and snuggle deeper into your bed, tune out the world, sit on a rock on the shores of a calm lake, lay on the moss and look up at the sky, night or day. Alone. Escape. Take deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Stare at the wall, stare out the window, stare at the horizon
#FrameItFriday (week 21 season 5) We put the furnace back on this past week, just for a couple of hours, not a minute longer because if I see that propane truck pull in our driveway one.more.time.Imma.gonna.lose.it. Love Canada but holy my moley, the weather pattern is just stupid crazy like a bad ugly paisley fabric. Happy May 2-4 folks! What are you getting up to this weekend? Big, HUGE plans this weekend for us, we're going to a plant sale in town Saturday morning and hope
#FrameItFriday (week 20 season 5) OMG they're back and so are all the fancy designer bug duds! In the photo I am modelling a fine outfit one must don in order to get from the house to the car. It's actually worn when you're wearing long sleeves and trousers and high rubber boots. I swear someone hit a switch somewhere that woke the super annoying black flies or whatever the heck they're called. It's supposed to be a scorcher today so shorts are on, t-shirt and only if I have
#FrameItFriday (week 19 season 5) THANKS FOR FOLLOWING ME, I FINALLY HIT 10K followers on Facebook. I give up on Instagram, grumble, grumble......... here we go...... Woohoo Mountain Dew, I do believe we have finally arrived at Spring. We hunted it down and I don't want to jinx it but I do believe we've found it! I mean look at my car (see photo), all the gravel roads around here are freshly graded and dusty as all get out or they've had a thick layer of gravel dumped on them
#FrameItFriday (week 18 season 5) Welcome to another Friday blog by moi. As I sit here at my desk/kitchen table, to my left sits my recent acquisition and it's bits and bobs. Oh Heather, Heather, Heather, what did you go and get now??? Any guesses? I'll give you ONE hint, that's it. Here's the hint: I don't need a license to use it. Put your guesses below in the comments, first correct guess wins a prize! I can't believe my family and I have lived here outside of Tweed for a
#FrameItFriday (week 17 season 5) Another week flashes by and yet another winter in Canada. Maybe it will start acting like Spring around here now, finally because all the wildlife is building nests, tending to nests, doing feed runs, etc. etc. What do I do? Well, I send my Canon 1DX and my 100-400mm lens in for a "spa" day to Canon Canada. It's not the brightest idea now is it? Beginning of nesting season and the birding lens is in the shop. Honestly, I've noticed that my le
#FrameItFriday (week 16 season 5) This week's blog is being posted on the correct day, I checked and double-checked. It's Friday, and it's Good Friday and it's a holiday. Happy Easter! So last Sunday morning as I sat and supped my cup of java the tranquil countryside exploded with a cacophony of squawks and shrieks and tweets. It was coming from across the road in the corn field. I threw on my Crocs (yes Crocs, well not official Crocs, the dollar store ones) and grabbed my ca
#FrameItFriday (week 14 season 5) Check what just came in! 30" wide x 40" tall (the canvas, not me lol) Isn't she a beauty? I've always loved my work on canvas. This image was taken at the top of Ragged Falls just west of Algonquin Park off a short trail from highway 60. I do not recommend hiking in there when it's mucky or icy (makes sense). I have a fall shot of it as well but there's just something about this angle of the roaring falls that I am fond of. It can get quite b
#FrameItFriday (week 13 season 5) It's a "double click and zoom" kind of week and shot here today. As 3rd winter temps fluctuate, the winds sort of die down, we hope and pray for no more snow. That's it Winter don't let the door hit you in the arse when you leave, go already will ya? This ain't a joke, it's April Fools day and I'd forgotten. This morning Paul said "I think those crane things are back in the pond" He knows their correct name it's just that he got a tad fluster
#FrameItFriday (week 11 season 5) Nice to see this canvas arrive at the front door yesterday. I was so excited to get it and a photo of it I neglected to check in the mirror before this photo was taken. Oh well, it's not about me, it's about the ready to hang 16" x 20" image of my fav shot ever of the Grand River Eagle in the Sycamore tree. Before I unwrap it and crush the box it came in, who's interested in buying it? For an incredible $80.00 CDN (plus shipping and handling)
#FrameItFriday (week 10 season 5) It's a piece of cake to sidetrack me lately. Dangle something unique or exciting before my eyes and away I go grabbing for it. I can't believe I'm saying this but perhaps it's a good thing gasoline is on the rise, it prevents me from straying afar and focusing on what surrounds me within walking distance or a very, very short drive. I'm crosseyed with all of the trees I've stared at these past few weeks, looking for owls. Every time I return
#FrameItFriday (week 9 season 5) Hey, all morning I've been wracking my brains (what brain cells I have left) about what to discuss other than the huge elephant in the room (if you live on this planet you know of which I'm alluding to) SO Let's have a chuckle at my expense instead.....I ordered these "Bay City Rollers" pants online a few weeks back. They were on clearance but I like this plaid and my hairstyle of late makes me a dead ringer for any one of the boys in the band
