#FrameItFriday (week 41 season 5) Whoa, it's Thanksgiving weekend, it's Fall, we're a week in to October already. Is it just me or does it seem like time is flying by at warp speed? Warp. Speed. I'm staring (ok glaring) over the top of my laptop at the turkey we plan to have for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.....it's frozen. Solid. Oh, you know, only because I forgot to take it out of the freezer! Doh! I sure hope it thaws quick because that bad boy needs to be edible by tomor
#FrameItFriday (week 40 season 5) I know Fall officially began a few days ago but around here on my page I like to begin my run of it on October 1st with this preview photo posted today (kind of like Christmas Eve). Listen, I know it's been a seriously shit week for a lot of folks because of that nasty bee-yotch Fiona and supreme jerk Ian, it's also Truth and Reconciliation Day here today as well. Here are ways you can help and also learn: Legacy of Hope: https://legacyofhope
#FrameItFriday (week 39 season 5) It's hoodie season! I have mixed emotions about that though. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE fall because, you know, the leaves however, where did summer go? We took the window air conditioners out this morning, and this afternoon we're getting a few trees taken down (before one crushes our bunkie and a couple of dead pines). We're not fans of chopping down trees but this Manitoba maple (need I say more) has a wicked dangerous lean. I have to say
#FrameItFriday (week 37 season 5) For the first time in ages I took off for a daytime explore. Pre high gas prices I roamed daily, now it's here and there when I got time to spare and some coin in my pocket. I wanted to do re-con on fall colour roads and also lot of things change, take for instance this image I've posted in black & white (sorry to my glaucoma followers) and colour. I've been to this place 3xs (and it's not just around the corner). First time, I just slowed do
#FrameItFriday (week 35 season 5) I woke up this morning and realized that it's September, the 2nd, already! What?? Even our beloved Moira River Blue Heron is crabby about how quick summer vacation flew by. In the photo he's demonstrating just how quick it went. I really don't have anything super exciting or educational (me, talk about something educational, hilarious!) this past week. I've got a tiny splinter that feels like a log jammed in behind my thumbnail that I'm tryin
#FrameItFriday (week 35 season 5) I found this giant bullfrog settling in along the shore of Eel's Lake last week. To truly appreciate the full beauty of this gal, you gotta double click on the photo. I've named her Sandy. Sandy wiggled her butt, did some gentle yoga leg moves and tried to settle in for some bug collecting. I'm glad she stayed put and co-operated for me. That's the story on this week's blog photo now on to some other stuff that I've been thinking about this p
#FrameItFriday (week 34 season 5) Hey, how's things? Hope y'all are doing ok. I'm not sure what it's like around your places but around here it's felt like O'Hare airport during a Friday on Spring Break (you know, back in the pre-covid days when planes flew instead of getting cancelled). All the birds are beginning to gather, congregate, bulk up in preparation for migration. The male hummingbirds have left the building and the remaining ones are engaging in dog fights over fe
#FrameItFriday (week 33 season 5) Thank you to the one person who tried to hazard a guess at what we named the beach by our campsite. I know in the big world, who really cares what we named the beach right? I appreciate you (you know who you are<3 ) who took a guess with a couple of epic names like "Mooseless Beach" and "Sonova Beach" lol but we ended up calling it "Leech Beach" after I walked along the length of it and back only to discover 3 or 4 tiny ones had latched on an
#FrameItFriday (week 31 season 5) My community recently got hit hard by a tornado that whipped through 10 minutes north of us at about 175kms/hr! We were very, very lucky we dodged that bullet. Very lucky. Many folks lost their homes, their livelihoods, vehicles, outbuildings and power. In fact, some are still without power. Thankfully, from what I know, there was only one minor injury. I posted some videos of some of the destruction earlier this week. I have a route that I l
#FrameItFriday (week 30 season 5) Let's have a laugh, I need a laugh, do you need a laugh? Caption this photo will you please?
I'll go first:
"Where the heck is my phone**? Damn, I hope I didn't drop it in the river!"
**He left it at home charging.
I know some of you can do better, so write one up and stick it in the comments below.
A week tomorrow I will be embarking on a back country camping trip with my family, it's going to be our 2nd annual (we're late bloomers). It's n
#FrameItFriday (Week 29 season 5) Who spent SIX hours paddling on the Moira River yesterday, let's see a show of hands! Oh right, it was just my husband and I. It was more like 3.5 hours of paddling and 2 hours of taking wildlife photos and a half hour dock chatting. We spent at least an hour taking photos of this guy shown because it's the first time we've seen one. What is he? He's a Bittern he's part of the heron family. Smaller than the Great Blue Heron but bigger than a
#FrameItFriday (week 28 season 5) Hey, here we are again, another Friday! I thought that I'd post these 2 photos my husband took of me photographing loons. It would appear that all I had to do was wave my wand and they'd magically appear before me......lol. Not quite, but I swear sometimes they pop up out of nowhere. Here's the deal, when I first began photographing loons with my very first Canon Rebel ti? I believe and a 75-300mm lens attached. I THINK it was with that camer
#FrameItFriday (week 27 season 5) Well looky here, if it weren't for the Canadian flag on her ball cap I'd swear #StellaCat has gone all Handmaid on us or perhaps both? Regardless of her "I'm going to get you for this mum" look, Stella is extremely grateful to live in a country that permits her to nap 23 hrs a day and get an hour off to eat, get brushed and watch birds from the safety of her screened in porch. We are all grateful and fortunate to live in the most amazing plac
#FrameItFriday (week 26 season 5) After checking "the weather" a mind numbing trillion times (apparently it's a Canadian's favourite app)we finally said "*uck it" and headed out for another paddle. Being that we have an annual provincial park pass we decided to head over to Sharbot Lake Provincial Park and test the waters there. Just as we pulled up to the launch to take the yaks off the racks 3 juvenile loons paraded by, our triple sign of hope. I broke into a little shoreli
#FrameItFriday (week 25 season 5) Finally, finally, finally met up with a Merganser family this past week. It was not a planned shoot, it all began with this family hiding out along the shore in the shrubs on the lake we were paddling on. They startled the heck out of me when they panic escaped into the waters ahead of me. After a frenzy of "walking on water" up the lake a bit with her 7 cotton ball babies they eventually settled on to mom's back (that epic shot I've dreamed
#FrameItFriday (week 24 season 5) Is this not a quintessential Canadian scene? To make it extra special, just so you know, the photographer and the paddlers were all wearing hoodies because it was chill-eeeeee. Anyhow, this was up in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park on Wolf Lake last week. The weather wasn't particularly epic this past week which meant being indoors with plastic moving totes still sitting stacked in the corner of my bedroom....it's been well over a year tha
#FrameItFriday (week 23 season 5) Well, for two weeks a portion of our patio was off limits as a pair of Robins set up their nursery in one of our planters. Initially 5 blue eggs were laid in this surprisingly tiny but tidy nest. 4 yellow beaks eventually appeared and for pretty much 2 weeks straight their bright yellow beaks pointed skyward for non-stop all you can eat fly by feedings. The airways around our house are congested with takeoffs and landings from dawn til dusk.
#FrameItFriday (week 22 season 5) Flying the coop, getting out of dodge, down time, me time, quiet time, whatever you want to call it. Cover your ears, pull the blanket over your head and snuggle deeper into your bed, tune out the world, sit on a rock on the shores of a calm lake, lay on the moss and look up at the sky, night or day. Alone. Escape. Take deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Stare at the wall, stare out the window, stare at the horizon
#FrameItFriday (week 21 season 5) We put the furnace back on this past week, just for a couple of hours, not a minute longer because if I see that propane truck pull in our driveway one.more.time.Imma.gonna.lose.it. Love Canada but holy my moley, the weather pattern is just stupid crazy like a bad ugly paisley fabric. Happy May 2-4 folks! What are you getting up to this weekend? Big, HUGE plans this weekend for us, we're going to a plant sale in town Saturday morning and hope
#FrameItFriday (week 20 season 5) OMG they're back and so are all the fancy designer bug duds! In the photo I am modelling a fine outfit one must don in order to get from the house to the car. It's actually worn when you're wearing long sleeves and trousers and high rubber boots. I swear someone hit a switch somewhere that woke the super annoying black flies or whatever the heck they're called. It's supposed to be a scorcher today so shorts are on, t-shirt and only if I have
